Why You Should Stay Away From Cat Litter When You’re Pregnant
There are quite a few different things that your doctor will advise you not to do while you are pregnant, just to ensure the safety of you and your unborn child. One of the most major however, and that they want you to take in all seriousness, is to stay away from cat litter while you are pregnant.
The reason that your doctor will instruct you to stay away from the cat litter box while you are pregnant is because cat feces can carry a parasite that causes toxoplasmosis, which is an infection that would not be serious for you but which would be potentially life threatening for your developing baby.
Instead of cleaning the cat litter yourself while you are pregnant, you will want to get someone else to do it. Although the odds of contracting toxoplasmosis during pregnancy are low, of course in this case it is much better to be safe than sorry, which is why doctors recommend that you just do not go near cat litter while you are pregnant.
There are a few other things that you will want to avoid as well while you are pregnant, besides cat litter. As most people already know, smoking is very bad, but never more so than when you are pregnant.
Smoking during pregnancy will do much more harm to your unborn child than it will to you, and so even if you were a smoker before you got pregnant, you should cut back as much as possible or hopefully quit altogether, in order to ensure the best health of your child.
Smoking is a major health problem, but at least if you do it when you are not pregnant you will not have to worry about harming a poor, innocent child. The more that a woman smokes while she is pregnant, the greater risk that she has of having a low-birthweight baby. This can greatly affect the health of the baby, and especially if they are premature they may not be able to make it through.
A recent study suggests that any woman who smokes anytime during the month before pregnancy to the end of the first trimester are more likely to have a baby with birth defects.
As you can see from this, staying away from cat litter and other things that are going to be possibly dangerous to your developing baby is very important, and will ensure that they stay in the best possible health.
